Handy Hints (+ FAQ)

Howdy writers!

Following are some tips and tricks for navigating the blog and having the best Prompting experience you can.

1. Tags/Labels are good. Tags are very good.

Only want to browse the prompts? Just select the Prompts tag at the bottom of the nearest one to you and you'll get a stream of just writing insp., or you can get just the links on the Prompts Masterlist!

Only want to browse the stories? Same deal, select the Stories tag.

Only want the stories for one prompt? You guessed it, check the prompt-specific tag, e.g. "Countdown" or "makeitrhyme". There will be no spaces between the word in the tags.

2. Ask me anything.

If you have a question, pop me an email (sdavies293@gmail.com) or leave a comment at the bottom of this post. I'm very enthusiastic to help the blog run as smoothly as possible and that includes making reader/writer experiences flow by solving any problems.

3. Take it and run.

These prompts often work best with the first idea they inspire in you. Write the first idea that comes into your head and run with it! Remember that we accept stories of any length.

FAQs

What's with the 100 Word thing? 100 words seemed a less-than-scary, Sure-I-have-time length to suggest to writers just looking for a short sweet prompt. Feel free to overshoot, feel free to underwrite, go for exactly 100 if you're feeling ambitious. 100 words is quick and snappy, but we're always open here for a marathon of a tale- or a sentence. Whatever you feel like.

Do I have to commit to answering every prompt? Of course not! Answer just one, answer them all, answer them 100 times if you want, which leads me to-

Can I submit more than one submission per prompt? Certainly you can. I'd love it, the more the merrier, and this is also applicable for-

Can I respond to an old prompt? Sure thing! I'll try and link it back in with the lists for all the other ones.

How will I know if my story has comments? Once I get a submission (which should have your name on it), I'll email you a link back. It'd be good to check regularly, and see if anybody has remarked on your work- but if a discussion really blows up and I see it, I'll try and pop you an email.

I have a cool prompt! How can I share it? There's a place for submitting prompts at the end of the Typeform, or you can chuck me an email at sdavies293@gmail.com.

You keep writing 'Today's Prompt'- is there really going to be a prompt every single day? Unfortunately, no. I'm on a roll at the moment, but prompts may be sporadically added as time goes on. When we've got the ideas, there will be prompts.

Watch this space!

This, like everywhere else, will be updated periodically as necessary.

All the best!
